The most important to follow - If you're serious of joining you'll read everything. Simple as that!
SITE RULES
- Respect - the number one rule, respect all fellow members, guests and staff. Remember, to receive respect you need to give it.
- No Fighting - it will not be tolerated Out of Character. Any disagreements should be taken care of in a calm and civil manner. Staff will take necessary actions to commence to a peaceful resolution.
- Powerplaying & Godmoding - not allowed, tolerated or desired. Warnings will be given before further action is taken. (There are a few controlled situations that this is exempt, including steals and Mother Nature events.)
- Skill Range - this is a beginner to advance writers site. We are welcome to everyone BUT we want to help people improve and see progress. We are here to improve your writing and Role Playing abilities and skills. It is expected of the more experienced writers to help and aid the more novice members to help them improve. We need to work together on this.
- Word Count - minimum word count in a post is 200, that is equivalent to 2 decent paragraphs or 3 mediocre paragraphs. However, do your best to match your partner's posts, this isn't required but try your best.
- Quality - though we desire length, it is QUALITY that counts, not Quantity. Normally a quality post will be longer than you expect anyway. Details in your writing is desired. Description of character, feelings, actions, scenery and mood really add to your posts so be imaginative.
- Curse Words - Swearing within IC posts is okay, but try to not go overboard. We understand sometimes it is just appropriate for a character to swear, but you probably shouldn't use profanity every other word. That being said you are not allowed to swear or use vulgar language in Shoutbox at all. This also includes "self-censoring" words. (using f*** or a$$, anything similar will not be tolerated) This is the most public area, guests can see and more often than not will make or break if a person joins a site. Remember swearing or the use of vulgar language in the Shoutbox is against the rules. Breaking this rule will result in warnings and consequences if it continues.
- Liquid time - your character can be in multiple threads at one time if desired, but don't make new threads outside of current season. Also keep track of when events happen during season and year.
- Joining/Accounts - one account per member
- Ratios - for every stallion made at least two mares to be made before creating another stallion (per member). Does not apply to bred foals on the site.
- Character Limits - you may have as many characters as you can keep active. If a character sits longer than a month and is noticed, we will request that you get the character active or allow it to be adopted out/deleted.
- Wait Approval - wait for character biography to be accepted before role playing (they'll be assigned several stats when accepted). Plotting beforehand is fine though.
- Keeping Records - character logs must be made and linked in your signatures within first week of your first character being accepted. This just makes it easier for people to know what character they're playing with.
- Signups - after your character is accepted, sign up in the member directory and character name claims as well. This is so we can keep track of who plays what character and which characters and members are active.
- Activity - is a MUST. After joining, if your account is not active within two weeks you will receive an email asking you to return. A week after the email is sent if there is no response or activity your account will be deleted and any character profiles will be archived.
- Absences - please post if you are going away. If any sort of life event happens that prevents you from being able to be active on site the only way we can know is if you post a thread. If possible post the dates you will be gone so we know when to expect you back. We can post a site wide list of who is away so none of your characters get messed with.
- Activity checks - will be sent out every two months. Mass emails will be included with this. We soulfully want activity on this site, not just dead accounts filling up space. So don't take things personal if you've forgotten the site and haven't replied to any emails that your account will be deleted.
- Realism - ONLY realistic characters will be accepted. This is not a fantasy equine site. If you don't know how a horse realistically acts or looks Research it! (Realism is the utmost important part of this site)
- Mature Content/Vulgar Language/Triggers - T.W.H. is rated PG-13 and is a site for all ages and all experience levels. Your thread topics must fall within the PG-13 guidelines; however, if you wish to push the boundaries of PG-13 (or go beyond that) in something you post we will allow it, however you must label your thread with an [M] in the thread title. This is to protect all involved and make T.W.H. as safe and welcoming of a site as possible. Such content that would need a label would be posts with extreme violence, excessive swearing, or blatant use of "trigger" subjects. You may still include such things in your threads but they must be labeled. If you have any questions on what would be considered a trigger or if a thread needs to be labeled, please PM a staff member.
IMAGE RULES - (this includes pictures and linearts)
- STOCK - 101! Images/pictures HAVE to be original owner approved!
Where can you find these? Deviant Art and Flickr. DA is a more reliable source. You HAVE to specifically research for stock(edit the search on both site) for free to public use. READ OWNER COMMENTS ON PICTURES TO VERIFY THEY ARE FREE TO USE STOCK! - STOCK IMAGES - Again! I know I'm stressing this a lot because it's important! If it is not approved stock then it is considered stealing and plagiarizing, THAT'S ILLEGAL! Which means site gets shut down, and legal action can be taken against all those involved.
- Credit - All avatars, signatures, character tables and anything else created with images or linearts MUST have credit of original owner ON the final product that is posted ON site. Otherwise it is stealing as well.
- Sizes - Signatures max = 500px wide by 600px high, Avatar max 150px wide by 150px high, Tables max - 500px wide (mainly to prevent board stretching.)
- NEVER COPY WHATS NOT YOURS OR WHAT YOU DO NOT HAVE PERMISSION TO USE!
SURPRISES/DISASTERS/ROUNDUPS
There will be Mother Nature (MN) Powerplaying in these events forewarning. No one can control what MN throws at you in real life, why would you get to here? If you have SEVERE aversion to this please let the staff know when you join. Surprises are Good! (but fun) Disasters are Bad! (but fun) Round-Ups are exciting and a way for you to delete or get rid of a character in a convenient way. Use it well! Rare Store Items occur during Round-Ups and are only available if you have a character participate in the event. People will be rewarded for notifying they actually took part in the S&Ds, linking to the thread it affected their character, it's greatly encouraged to keep things fresh and tasteful. Ex: Studalicious has discovered a new thriving land but has been ravaged horribly by wild apes and will have a limp for six months.
CHARACTERS
- Realistic - plain and simple. (Have questions? Ask a staff member or research yourself.)
- Colors- colors must be accurate to breeds the make up the character. (We have genetic-hounds around here that will happily help you but will point out inaccuracies...in a good way of course)
- Genetics - are required for character breeding, you don't need to know them off hand, we'll assign them upon approval so no worries.
- Life-Span - character may only live up to 15-25 years old. (past about 18 life gets harsh)
- Prime - is when characters are at their healthiest, strongest and highest survivability. Stallions reach their prime between 5-15 years of age. Mares reach their prime between 3-12, any older baring foals get strenuous
- Pregnant Mares - you can NOT join with a pregnant mare
- Foals - 6 months is the youngest to join
- White Horses - is not an actual color. It is a rare extreme marking or mistaken as another color.
- Gray Horses - must have base colors, the color they were born as and that will lighten to gray (grays are commonly mistaken as white).
- Rare Markings - may join with naturally occurring rare markings but they will not be passable to foals unless bought in store. (brindle, manchado, chimera, birdcatcher spots, etc)
- Breeds - All breeds are accepted
- Feral/Wild - horse breeds encouraged (Special Bonuses will be given to all purebred wild breeds, Mild bonus will be given to any half-bred wild breed.)
- Height Limits - up to 15.3hh maximum (up to 16.3 hh if purchased in store)
- Fertility - will be assigned when bio is accepted. ( this is to guaranty everyone gets a fair chance to have foals so it is not a monopoly of one stallion covering all mares in one season.)
- Bands - only stallions can lead a band (mares see store)
- Land Claiming - there are no lands to claim! Wild/Feral horses don't claim territory in real life, plus being King of the hill is not really the point of this site.
- Bachelor/Rogue - all offsite born mares and stallions will start as a Bachelor Stallion or Rogue Mare.
- Regions - the Grand Mountain Range is default/original region. When we become active enough for more lands, they will be HUGE land regions that will be specific to where horses live. When this occurs characters will be required to choose a region when joining and remain within that region. Regions are giant expanses of land (think continental size) and it wouldn't be realistic for a single horse to travel between these regions.
- Companions - Character companion can ONLY be RPed WITH the character they have been purchased for. Companions MAY not help in any steal, claim and/or Harm other characters without the opposing Scribe's consent prior to the interaction.
- Leaving Band - for a band member to depart there must be a IC thread made to either the Band stallion or Lead Mare(has right to kick members out) asking permission to leave. If refused character must stay in that band. If thread is not replied to within a week of post(permitting scribe of stallion/lead are not noted away). Tag staff in thread and the character will be let free with staff-approval.
BREEDING
- Current Thread - There must be a CURRENT thread of the pair that want to breed and linked to the breeding thread, PG13 only. Nothing graphic what so ever!
- Seasons - equivalent to four real life weeks, specifically 28 days.
- Breeding - only in Summer mares will go to full term on this site which means they give birth in the spring.
- Foaling - only in the Spring
- Aging - all characters age a year every spring. (no they don't live forever)
- Maturity- Colts mature at 2 years old but have a low success rate of conception, 3 & older have higher rate to reproduce. Fillies may by bred by age 2 years and then foal when they are 3, but birth can be difficult at such a young age.
- Slumber Party - Mares MAY get bred by MULTIPLE stallions in one season! Each Scribe will have to post each stallion's stats to make them count towards the stats. It'll be a random draw of the lucky sire. (this only counts to a stallions limit IF he successfully sires the foal)
- Stallion yearly breeding limit - stallions do have a limit of the amount of mares the may breed each year. This will be assigned on acceptance of your character. (This is a bit unrealistic BUT for site purposes it is fair so that there is not stud-monopoly going on.)
- Mare yearly breeding limit - Mares do have a limit for how many foals they'll have in a life time. So choose wisely. Again this will be assigned, by staff, on acceptance of your character.
- Force Breeding - is allowed, with Scribe's consent.
- Breeding location - breeding can happen anywhere in the lands, there is no restrictions
- Foaling location - may happen anywhere in the lands. Though some areas ARE safer than others, these will be noted.
FOALS
- Foals MUST stay with their mother till they are at LEAST one.
- Foal Bios can ONLY be made after there is an official birthing thread made and recorded. It gets confusing otherwise.
- Foals become fertile at age of 2 years old
- Foals MUST find a mare to adopt them if their mother dies before they are one year old. Otherwise complications and perhaps death will fall upon the foal.
- Foster Mares - There will be a list made every year of mares willing to adopt foals that become orphaned or abandoned.
- Twins - are rare so health will not be as good. (there is a chance without being bought)
- Foals can play with other Band foals when things are calm it is VERY common for band foals to intermingle with each other.
- Foals are submissive when young and are easy pushovers so at some points have to listen to adults, its nature because no horse wants to get hurt
MARES
- Any Mare can be a lead mare
- Band (lead) Stallions chooses the lead mare
- Lead mare has right to kick anyone from band, the stallion has little say. (its the girls that run the real show.) If a lead mare kicks another member out, it must be done IC post but please post a note in the band's log
- Mares actually run the band. They decide where they eat/drink/shelter for the seasons, unless desperately pushed by stallion.
- Mares can choose to leave a band when foaling, though rare and risky, it has been known in desperate times a mare has left in this dangerous time. (Dice will be rolled to determine if she is successful, must be noted in New Life board.)
- Lead Mares may fight to protect and fend off bachelors and band stallions during steals. (needs to be purchased in store)
- Can be bred by the age of their second summer (2 years old) then will foal the following spring when they are 3 years old.
- All Mares start off as ROGUE mares and are subject to claims no matter what.
- Rogue mares are free game to be claimed by ANY stallion, first come first serve.
- Rogues are allowed a choice of a 50/50 dice roll to resist each claim attempt
- 3 escapes of claims will awarded with 1 full season of freedom before available to claim attempts again.
STALLIONS
- All original/offsite stallions start as Bachelor Stallions.
- Any Stallion can become a Band stallion. (Just need to acquire one mare[other horse that's not a mature stallion] and post in Band logs)
- The moment a stallion claims/acquires his FIRST mare he's being added to the Band Stallion List. Technically first mare is lead but stallion may changes this after they gain more mares.
- Stallions attempt to breed at 2 but will have a lower rate of success.
- Bachelors 2-4 can make as many steal attempts as they want, they just have HIGH chance of no success.
- Stallions will have the physical ability to actually steal successfully and keep mares by 5 years old, rarely by 4.
- Typically by two years old colts are kicked from bands. Have to be kicked out by 2! (Unless otherwise by choice/arrangement of band stallion.)
- Two Stallions may run a band together, but only ONE can be the main stealer/claimer, the other is helpful in protecting. Buy Bro-claim in store.
- Stallions can only have two steals going on at once, since there is liquid time, but the steals have to be targeted on different band members. (ex: Bob can only have one steal going on with Joe and if he wants to make another steal it has to target Bill. He can't have two steals against Joe at the same time.)
- Steals can happen any time of the year
- Steals may consist of stealing one member from a band in one official steal thread. Anymore have to buy steal package from store. (Ex: Bob is stealing Lea and Lou from Joe, he can not steal Kally from Joe at same time)
- Any stallion 2 years of age may attempt to claim Rogue Mares.
- Only ONE claim attempt on individual Rogue Mare, even if unsuccessful (per season)
- Currently NO limits to amount of mares in a stallion's band.
- STALLIONS MUST CHOOSE A LEAD MARE (normally first mare ever acquired) to be considered a Band! They cannot become an official band until they choose a lead mare.
- Stallions MUST have a Band Log Created as soon as they acquire a mare and must be updated weekly to bi-weekly.
- Band Stallions DO have the right to push their band members around. They protect them and if he has to keep them safe from bachelors or danger. The Band stallion has the right to use physical force to move his band. Nips, kicks and pushing are allowed, but not to a brutal extent, this does sit under Godmoding a bit. DON'T ABUSE IT!
For more defined steal rules go here >> CLICK There are more defined rules/guidelines to almost every section of Touching Wild Horses. Keep an eye pealed for anything new and fresh. New and Edited rules
I think that is it.. mostly... Rules are subject to change with time and will be noted and announced.
